THE IMPORTANCE OF OBESITY PROPHYLAXIS IN YOUNG PEOPLE
Obesity is most often linked to lifestyle factors that can be prevented, especially poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyle. Obesity in children is of particular importance, as eating habits and physical exertion are adopted early and tend to last a lifetime. Adults need to be a role model for young generations in adopting a healthier lifestyle. Unhealthy behaviors regarding nutrition and physical activity in children and young people involve proposing and implementing strategies to reduce and prevent, respectively, promoting healthy behaviors, both through individual and group interventions, but especially at community, population level. Behavioral changes must be supported by the elaboration and implementation of health policies applicable in the communities of children and students.
FOOD ADDICTION IN PATIENTS WITH OBESITY
Food Addiction (FA) is based on the fact that similar behaviors are found and identical neurological pathways are activated in both food intake and psychoactive substance use. FA could explain the difficulties with the control of food consumption, failures in attempts to reduce food intake and the inability to abstain or reduce specific type of food. Excessive sugar, fat or salt content in processed food could be significant components of FA due to the activation of the reward circuit in the same way as by other psychoactive substances. The prevalence and the role of FA in obesity remain unclear and need to be evaluated.
Eating Disorders–A Perplexing Eating Behavior
Eating behavior is a complex phenomenon compounded by interplay of central nervous system, endocrine and gastrointestinal systems linked with numerous neural pathways. To put anything in mouth is a discernible human behavior and governed by hunger, hormones, emotions, and desires. Numerous life events may claw the normal eating behavior leading to aberrant eating pattern, if prolonged can result in Eating Disorders (ED). Anorexia nervosa, bulimia or binge eating are common eating disorders which affects millions of people of all ages, men, women particularly teenage girls. Major causes of ED were associated with physical and emotional destructions due to psychological and socio-cultural factors.
